Manganese ore is a naturally occurring mineral from which manganese, an essential metal, is extracted. Manganese is a critical element used primarily in steel production, where it serves as an alloying agent to improve the strength, toughness, and wear resistance of steel. The most common manganese-bearing minerals are pyrolusite (manganese dioxide, MnO₂) and rhodochrosite (manganese carbonate, MnCO₃), though other forms such as braunite and hausmannite also exist.
Manganese ores are typically found in sedimentary deposits, often associated with iron ores, and are mined through both open-pit and underground methods. Once extracted, the ore undergoes crushing, screening, and beneficiation processes to increase the manganese concentration and remove impurities. The processed manganese ore can then be used in a variety of applications.
