Zinc Slag

Zinc slag is a by-product generated during the smelting and refining of zinc metal from its ores. It is composed primarily of silica, iron, zinc oxide, and other metallic impurities. The formation of zinc slag occurs when the raw materials used in zinc production, such as zinc ore and fluxing agents, are heated to high temperatures, causing the separation of the molten zinc metal from the remaining non-metallic components.

Zinc slag typically appears as a dense, glassy material with a dark gray to black color. It is often granulated or crushed to a coarse powder, depending on its intended use. Due to its composition, zinc slag has a range of industrial applications. It is frequently used in the construction industry as a substitute for natural aggregates in concrete and road base materials, helping to reduce the need for virgin materials. Additionally, zinc slag can be used in the production of abrasives, as a filler in asphalt, and in land reclamation projects.
